On Thursday evening, February 15, 2007, the China Committee welcomed the Year of the Boar with its first annual New Year’s Banquet at Phoenix Restaurant.
The event was attended by 110 committee members and friends. Highlights of the evening included a four-course dinner planned by China Committee Co-Chair Raymond Chin, a raffle to raise money for the committee’s activities and remarks by John C. Thomson, Executive Director of the Chicago China Development Corporation (CCDC) in Shanghai.
Mr. Thomson, whose appointment as the first head of the CCDC had been announced earlier in the day at a press conference with Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, is well known to members of the China Committee. In his remarks, he affirmed the strong business and institutional relationships between Chicago, Shanghai, and Shenyang, spoke of future opportunities, and gave new year’s greetings to all in English and Mandarin.
The China Committee would like to thank all who attended, as well as the Sister Cities International staff members, committee members, and friends whose donations of goods and services helped make this event a success. « BACK |
